On February 15, Sagawa Express and 11 other companies worldwide participating in the WWF Climate Savers Programme announced the Tokyo Declaration to tackle global climate change.
Signing the declaration at the Climate Savers Tokyo Summit, leaders of the companies highlighted that the world's greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced by more than 50 percent by 2050 in order to avoid a climate change crisis, and that emissions must peak and start to decline within the next 10 to 15 years in order to keep global warming below 2 degrees Celsius.
In 2003 Sagawa Express became the first Japanese company and the world's only logistics business to participate in the Climate Savers Programme and has set a goal of reducing the company's total CO2 emissions by 6% by fiscal 2012 from the fiscal 2002 level. To achieve that goal, Sagawa Express has decided to introduce 7,000 natural gas vehicles by fiscal 2012, of which 3,625 vehicles have already been introduced as of January 20, 2008. |
